Telecom giant Vodafone Idea (Vi) is set to launch its 5G mobile broadband services in March 2025, aiming to disrupt the market with aggressive price plans. According to Economic Times, the telco plans to undercut its competitors, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, by up to 15% at entry-level pricing.
Key Highlights of Vodafone Idea 5G Launch
- Launch Timeline: March 2025
- Coverage: Top 75 cities, including 17 priority circle cities and industrial hubs.
- Pricing Strategy: Plans up to 15% cheaper than competitors to attract high-value users.
- Market Strategy: Focus on data-heavy zones and competitive 5G spectrum deployment.
Vodafone Idea’s Aggressive Approach
Vodafone Idea plans to offer discounted 5G plans to regain its market share in India. A spokesperson stated, “We are gearing up to launch 5G services and are committed to providing the best experience and price.”
In addition to competitive pricing, the company may increase payouts for dealer commissions and promotional campaigns to lure back high-value prepaid users.
Vi’s shares closed at ₹8.13 on Thursday, marking a 1.37% rise, as markets reacted to the news of its impending 5G launch.
Competing with Industry Leaders
Vodafone Idea is directly competing with Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and BSNL. The move may trigger a price war, especially as Jio and Airtel recently raised their base plan prices during the July 2024 tariff hikes.
Vi’s Future Prospects
The telco plans to improve its 4G coverage while simultaneously rolling out 5G services in key markets. With sufficient spectrum in its priority regions, Vodafone Idea is positioned to cater to growing demand in industrial and urban hubs.
