Social Security January payment schedule: Here’s when beneficiaries will get their checks

Washington: Another round of Social Security benefits for recipients is coming as we start a new year.

The timing of regular monthly payments from the Social Security Administration (SSA) varies, usually based on the day of your birth. For anyone who applied for Social Security retirement, disability, and survivor (RSDI) benefits after May 1, 1997, the second, third, or fourth Wednesday of the month is the designated day.

The first of the month is when those who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI), which is paid to older adults and those with disabilities who have little to no income or resources, each month.

Payments are normally made on the prior weekday if the 1st occurs on a weekend or holiday. There is also a particular payment date for those who received benefits prior to May 1997.

In January, beneficiaries can anticipate receiving their monthly payments on the following dates:

How to report a Social Security payment that is missing

The Social Security Administration advises anyone who do not get their electronic payment on the designated day to get in touch with their bank or financial institution first, as it “may be experiencing a delay in posting your payment.”

Call 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) or get in touch with your local Social Security office if you still need to report a late, lost, or stolen Social Security payment.

On its website, the administration states, “We will review the case and if the payment is due, we will replace it.”
