Brock Purdy’s surge in the late season
In a season marred by injuries, the 49ers quarterback went over 300 yards for the third time in four games. Prior to leaving the game late in the fourth quarter due to an elbow injury, Purdy had a career-high 377 yards on a 77.1 completion rate. Although Purdy won’t be playing in the playoffs this year, his impending contract extension and its effects on the rest of the 49ers roster will be major topics of discussion in the upcoming NFL offseason.
Goff defeats the 49ers to snap a six-game losing run.
It had been precisely six years since Jared Goff’s last victory over the 49ers.
In a 48-32 victory, Goff, who was still with the Los Angeles Rams at the time, threw for 199 yards and four touchdowns. With 303 passing yards and three touchdowns tonight, Goff gave the Lions a similar showing.
On the road, the Lions end the season 8-0.
The Lions join the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, and Minnesota Vikings as the only three teams with two or fewer defeats going into Week 18.
However, Detroit’s victory over San Francisco today means they’ve gone an undefeated 8-0 on the road, something none of those other teams have done this season. Next week, the Lions will host the Vikings at Ford Field for “Sunday Night Football” to wrap off the regular season.
